A personal consultation with a plastic surgeon allows a patient to determine if he or she feels comfortable with the surgeon and his or her office staff. In order to allow enough time for your consultation, please plan to spend about an hour at our office.
You will then spend approximately 30-60 minutes with Dr. Swail. He will explain the details of the surgical procedure, the risks involved, and the probability of success. He will also review your medical history to evaluate any health conditions that might affect your surgical results. Your expectations and goals will also be discussed to make certain that the desired surgical outcome is realistic. After meeting with Dr. Swail, you will have the opportunity to sit down with our patient care coordinator to discuss scheduling and cost of procedures.
Patients are encouraged to bring a list of their own questions and a notepad to write down any information that is not included in the take-home packet.
No ethical or wise surgeon will try to tell you that they never have complications. The key is to avoid serious or life-threatening complications and to deal with the less serious complications appropriately. Serious and life-threatening complications are usually the result of overly lengthy surgery, overly aggressive surgery, or inadequate precautions. I do not perform eight to 12 hour total-body makeovers. All of these procedures can be performed in separate surgeries without the risks of a prolonged anesthetic. In any individual case where the choice is between a more aggressive technique and a lower risk of serious complications, I will recommend the safer course to you. When less serious complications occur (as they inevitably do in all surgeon’s practices), I will manage them appropriately. When I operate on you I make a commitment to your safety and satisfaction. I will not abandon that commitment.
