Drooping or lined foreheads can cause an angry, sad, or tired expression to be permanently visible on a person’s face. A forehead lift is designed to minimize lines and creases that develop across the forehead and also occur high on the bridge of the nose. Dr. Swail’s forehead lift procedure helps improve what are commonly known as frown lines and can effectively re-position a low or sagging brow.
Depending on the amount of correction needed and the location of the unwanted lines, Dr. Swail uses inconspicuous incisions along the natural folds and creases of the face or along the hairline in order to minimize visible scarring.
Brow Lift Procedure
Once an incision technique is chosen, Dr. Swail begins by repositioning the tissue and muscle beneath the skin. In some cases, excess tissue and muscle may be altered or removed to correct the source of the visible lines and creases. The eyebrows are often lifted to a more youthful position and held in place by sutures. Once the brow lift is complete, the incision is closed with stitches or clips and the area is washed.
Brow Lift Results
Most patients are able to resume light daily activity after seven to 10 days depending on the type of procedure as well as personal rate of recovery. Vigorous physical activity should be limited for two to three weeks following the procedure. These activities include any type of physical activity that increases blood pressure, including jogging, heavy housework, or sex. Prolonged direct exposure to sunlight should also be avoided for two to three months to optimize the results of a brow lift.

Dr. Jeffrey Swail is a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the Colorado Medical Society, and the Boulder County Medical Society.
Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, he earned his medical degree in 1989 and completed surgical training at Queen’s University and Dalhousie University.
For more than a decade, Dr. Swail has volunteered his skills on surgical mission trips, providing cleft lip and palate care to children in the Philippines through Mending Faces, where he serves as Chair of Surgical Services. He received the organization’s Humanitarian Award in 2007.
