Also known as “liquid facelifts,” dermal fillers, or soft tissue fillers, can plump lips, enhance shallow contours, and soften facial creases and wrinkles. Soft tissue fillers can temporarily provide the benefits of a facelift without the down time or recovery time. All soft tissue filler treatments are temporary and will need to be repeated to maintain optimal results. Soft tissue fillers can enhance the overall appearance of the face and create a younger and fuller appearance.
Our injector can help determine which filler should be used to correct each patient’s individual needs. Each dermal filler has its own benefits, and the determination of which filler is used will be based on the patient’s personal needs.
Soft Tissue Filler Procedure
The procedure begins with a thorough examination and discussion concerning the overall desired results and expectations for the procedure. Once our injector has a clear understanding of the patient’s desired outcome, he will design a personalized strategy.
Before any injections are made, a topical anesthetic is used to numb the areas where injections will be made to ensure patient comfort throughout the procedure. Once the areas are numb, injections are carefully made in the affected areas. The injections take just seconds and the overall procedure is typically done in a matter of minutes.
Soft Tissue Filler Results
Once the dermal filler procedure is complete, ice is recommended to soothe any minor discomfort or swelling following the treatment. Typically, patients are able to return to daily activities immediately following soft tissue filler injections. In some cases, additional treatments may be necessary for deep lines and scars. It is important to not apply direct pressure to injection sites after the procedure as it may cause soft tissue filler to move. The way the face continues to age and how the body absorbs fillers determine how long the results last. Even “semi-permanent” facial fillers will require repeat treatments, as none of the facial fillers are permanent.

Dr. Jeffrey Swail is a board-certified plastic surgeon and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the Colorado Medical Society, and the Boulder County Medical Society.
Originally from Winnipeg, Canada, he earned his medical degree in 1989 and completed surgical training at Queen’s University and Dalhousie University.
For more than a decade, Dr. Swail has volunteered his skills on surgical mission trips, providing cleft lip and palate care to children in the Philippines through Mending Faces, where he serves as Chair of Surgical Services. He received the organization’s Humanitarian Award in 2007.
